nothing worth having comes easy

The back of my door is like a giant mood board of things i've collected, written and painted. I suppose it's kind of like a larger version of my journal, except i have to make sure everything actually looks semi-decent seeing as it's on display in my bedroom!

All of the old photographs you see in a vertical line down the left-hand side of the door are from a huge collection which my mum rescued from a boot fair. A lifetime of photographs from a couple, from the day they got married until the day they died, had been left unwanted and were being sold for $3. Looking through them all was so beautiful yet saddening; nobody wanted to keep what was essentially the memory of their lives. We didn't want them to be forgotten, regardless of whether we knew them or not, so we have kept the photos (unfortunately there were no names on the backs of them so we couldn't return them to family members) and i decided to use some of the scenic ones of the places they'd visited on holiday to put on display as some of them were absolutely beautiful.

The quote about the sea is by E.E. Cummings and is one of my favourites.

I love these types of things. I'm slowly making something like this with loads of frames I've been collecting. The photos are kind of sad but it sounds like they had a great life

your door looks cool and it's so sad about the photos and to think the old couple's lives were left to be forgotten! X

My first job as an eager 15-year old was working in a nursing home, for the elderly who couldn't live unsupported any more. It broke my heart every day that these people had been reduced to living in one building, never venturing out, for the rest of their lives. They had some great stories to tell though, and I made sure I sat down and took time to hear as many of them as I could, which I hope helped a little. Cx

Wow! This post came at a perfect time because i've been feeling a bit down in the dumps.

I was actually thinking of getting inspirational quotes and putting them in my wallet but i think i'll be printing some for my walls and door as well

Thanks for the inspiration

This is a lovely post! Have you done illustration/textiles/art in general in school/uni? If not it seems like you have! I just graduated in textile design but always had a bigger interest in illustration and these are adorable xx
